MNA handed over to FIA for investigation

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad police on Monday obtained 3-day physical remand of PML-N legislator Anjum Aqeel from the court of civil judge Islamabad Rai Liaquat Kharal and afterwards handed over accused to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for investigation, reliable sources told The Nation.
PML-N MNA was presented in the court under strict security, where police obtained his 3-day physical remand in the fraud case registered against him on the complaint of Shabat Ali, at Shalimar Police Station vide FIR number 115, dated March 5,2010 under Section 409 of CrPc.
Sources said that FIA was already investigating PML-N legislator in the National Police Foundation (NPF) Rs 6 billion-land scam, in a case registered with Shalimar Police Station vide FIR No.432, dated July 2,2011.
However, in this case Anjum had obtained bail from a court of Rawalpindi and was facing investigation of FIA. Upon the directives of Minister of Interior Rehman Malik the investigations were transferred to FIA for consolidated investigation into the cases. However, the Islamabad police will prosecute the 11 workers of PML-N, on physical remand including MNAs brother in-law Shaheen Akbar Khan, sources added Earlier, on Monday morning PML-N legislator was presented in Anti-Terrorist Court Rawalpindi in a case registered with Shalimar Police Station dated July 15, 2011.
When this scribe contacted IGP Islamabad Binyamin, he said that case under Section 409 CrPc falls in the jurisdiction of FIA that was the reason behind transferring the case to FIA. However, in police station attack case, registered under 7-ATA, Islamabad police will conduct all the investigations, he added.
To a question, he said that after completion of three-day physical remand, FIA would present accused in the court.
If court allows judicial remand, onward from there 14-days remand given by ATC Rawalpindi will start, he said.
When this scribe contacted Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, he said after getting the medical request from Islamabad police, the authorities in PIMS were directed to constitute a medical board. Four-member medical board has been constituted, DC added.
When this scribe contacted Dr.Anjum Javed, spokesperson PIMS said that as per the instruction of district administration and court orders medical board comprising cardiologist Dr.Fareed ud Din including two juniors, and General Physician Dr. Jamal Zafar has been established.
Dr.Fareed ud Din will be the head of the board, he added.
To a question, he said that on July 18, at 11.30am the medical check up of PML-N MNA was scheduled, however, Aqeel was not presented for the check-up at PIMS.
