Prime suspect behind blast at ANP rally arrested

The prime suspect behind the Peshawar blast has been arrested and the Mastung bomber has been identified, a Senate standing committee was told on Thursday.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s additional IG told the meeting that the prime suspect in the attack on an ANP rally in Peshawar has been arrested. He belongs to Hingo, said the police official. ANP leader Haroon Bilour and 21 others were killed when a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the party’s rally in Peshawar.

A Balochistan government official also briefed the Senate committee. He said that the suicide bomber who bombed the BAP’s election rally in Mastung has been identified. According to him, he belongs to Abbottabad. At least 149 people lost their lives in the Mastung carnage.

At a press conference in Quetta, the DIG of the Counter-Terrorism Department in Balochistan, Aitizaz Goraya, said that they have identified the suicide bomber. The man who facilitated him was a local resident, he said.

The police officer said that they are working with residents of the area as part of their investigation. He said the facilitator brought the suicide bomber all the way to the incident site.

“We need the public’s help to catch all the facilitators,” said Goraya.

He said the suicide bomber was holding a party flag at the time of the attack and was sitting in the fourth row.
