Sri Lanka soldiers and Tamil Tiger rebels fought gun battles across the embattled northern region, leaving 10 rebels and one soldier dead, the military said Thursday.The new fighting broke out along the front lines in the Welioya, Mannar and Jaffna areas bordering the rebels' de facto state in the north on Wednesday, a defense ministry official said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to government regulations. The worst fighting was reported from Welioya region, where two rebels and one soldier were killed while 36 rebels and four soldiers were wounded, the official said.
