Gloves off

After the suicide attacks on the Danish Embassy and worsening of law and order situation in areas like Swat, the government has finally scrapped its peace deal with Taliban. These talks were viewed with disdain and scepticism by the US and Afghanistan. It has been proven time and time again that there can be no negotiations with such elements. They are just using these negotiations for buying time for their ulterior motives of destabilizing the country. They are only interested in presenting their own radical version of Islam. At least Musharraf has stood up to them and shown that he means business. The new government has shown weakness rather than strength. How can one negotiate with terrorists and extremists who are hardened in their approach and don't know the meaning of flexibility?-DAWOOD SHAKIL, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, June 11.
