LAHORE - The Pakistan Cricket Board has approached chairman of the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, to secure the release of fast bowler Mohammad Asif who has been detained by the UAE authorities over possession of some illegal drug. Sources in the PCB confirmed that Dr Nasim Ashraf held a meeting with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan on Monday. The Shiekh, also the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, is reported to be very influential with the UAE royal family. The PCB chairman, who was on his way back to Pakistan after watching the final of the Asia Cup in Dhaka on Sunday, made a brief stopover at Dubai and went straight to the Abu Dhabi cricket chief and discussed the issue of Asif's release with him. It was also learnt that Pakistan's embassy staff, quietly making efforts to secure the release of Asif on its own, had facilitated the meeting. The PCB chief also discussed with the Sheikh the proposed three match one-day series against West Indies in November this year.
