Enquiry tribunal on April 9 incident set up

KARACHI (APP) - The Sindh Government has appointed a Tribunal headed by Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, Judge High Court of Sindh, for the purpose of making an inquiry into the incident which occurred in Karachi on April 9, 2008 in which large scale violence broke out and 10 persons were allegedly killed, Government properties damaged and around 40 vehicles were burnt. The terms of reference of the Enquiry are: *To ascertain the causes of the above incident; *To identify the persons/ groups involved in the violence; *Whether Intelligence network had collected the information of cooking up of conspiracy of violence and passed on to the Police; *Whether Police were adequately deployed. If so, why it failed in controlling the violence specially the burning of Tahir Plaza where 6 persons were burnt alive, *What was the response of fire-fighters? The Tribunal has been asked to recommend action against the persons involved in the incident. The Tribunal will submit its report within two weeks to the Sindh Govt through Home Department.
