ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has stressed the need for making prudent policies and promoting understating among all the federating units to tap the water resources so that this precious gift of nature could be best utilised for economic growth and prosperity in the country. The Prime Minister was talking to Deputy Chairman Senate, Jan Muhammad Jamali, Senator SM Zafar and Senator Najma during a meeting at PMs House on Friday. Talking about the benefits of the policy of consensus and reconciliation, the Prime Minister said that the Government would follow it in dealing with all issues of national importance. He expressed confidence that all the political forces of the country would present concrete proposals for construction of water reservoirs in the larger interest of the country. The long-term solution of the energy shortage in the country, the Prime Minister noted, is also dependent on building more hydel power generation plants. The Senators appreciated the Prime Minister for taking all the stakeholders on board while taking important national decisions. They briefed him about the status of ongoing development projects in their areas. The Deputy Chairman Senate informed the Prime Minister about the current proceedings in the Senate. He also drew attention towards the water situation in the country. Meanwhile, during his meeting with PML(N) MNA Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who called on him at his chamber in the Parliament, Prime Minister Gilani said that across-the-board allocation of development funds to Parliamentarians had shown positive results in solving the basic issues of the masses at the local level. He said that Government had focused itself on the mega development projects as the local level activities were formulated and supervised by the elected representatives themselves through funds at their disposal. The Parliamentarians, he observed, are more diligent and coming with proposals for further progress in their respective areas. He expressed the confidence that it would go a long way in the overall progress of the country. Makhdoom Javed Hashmi apprised the Prime Minister of the ongoing development activities in his constituency. He thanked the Prime Minister for providing timely funds for the development schemes. Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Minister for Defence Production, Abdul Qayyum Jatoi, Political Advisor to PM, Ghazanfar Gul, and other parliamentarians were also present in the meeting.
