KARACHI (APP) - Shipping activity remained brisk for the second consecutive day at the Port where five ships carrying containers, chemicals, palm oil and diesel oil were accommodated berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on June 17, the Port source said Friday. Two more ships with containers and palm oil also arrived at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours. Berth occupancy was recorded at the Port at 82pc on Thursday as against 64pc on the previous day where a total of nine ships namely C.V HS Beethoven, C.V APL Chile, M.V Green Line, M.V Rana, M.V Alexi-I, M.V Khadiza Jahan, M.T Strilen, M.T Sc Dalian and M.T AI-Soar-II are currently occupying berths to load/ offload containers, cement, sugar, chemicals, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours. Cargo handling operation were carried out efficiently at the Port where a cargo volume of 83,708 tonnes, comprising 69,750 tonnes imports and 13,958 tonnes exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 1,346 containers (boxes) was handled during the last 24 hours. Four ships M.T AI-Deerah, C.V CMA CGM Jamaica, C.V HS Beethoven and C.V APL Chile sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours, while three more ships M.T Sc Dalian, M.T Strilen and M.T AI-Soar-II are expected to sail. Four ships C.V MSC Namibia, M.V SC Salina, M.T Bunga Kantan and M.T Iron Monger-S scheduled to load/ offload containers, rice, palm oil and furnace oil are expected to take berths at Container Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Liquid Terminal and FOTCO Terminal respectively on June 18. Container Vessel Maersk Naha is due to arrive at Port Qasim on the same day. M.V Yue Dian carrying coal is due to arrive on June 19, while four more ships C.V Maersk Utah, M.T AI-Salam-II, M.T AL-Kuwaitah and M.T Perwiti are due to arrive on June 20.
