KARACHI - Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday claimed to have arrested a man allegedly involved in killings of four political workers of the parties of the coalition government of Sindh. The CID detained Muhammad Akhtar alias Baba, son of Muhammad Iqbal, said to be a serial target-killer and accused in killing an ANP worker, two activists of PPP and one of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He was arrested from 24-market near PTCL office in the limits of Saeedabad police station. Police also recovered a kalashnikov and 150 bullets from his possession. He has been involved in the target killings in the City for the last few years. We suspect his involvement in other cases as well, said Fayyaz Khan, SSP CID (Operations), adding that police have searching him for quite some time. Khan said that the accused, in initial interrogation, revealed that he with his accomplices had been involved in killings and robberies. He also revealed that he, along with his accomplices Hussain, Shakeel and Babu, allegedly sprayed bullets on Liaquat, an activist of MQM, in front of his house. Saeedabad police have already registered an FIR No 766/2009 under Section 302/34 of the Criminal Procedure Code in this regard. According to Khan, the accused has also confessed killing Fazal-e-Wahid, a worker of ANP, in Saeedabad. FIR No 62/2008 of the killing was lodged at Saeedabad police station under Section 302/34. Similarly, two activists of PPP including Shaheen Qureshi and Ejaz Qureshi were allegedly killed by Akhter and his accomplices in the jurisdiction of the Saeedabad police station. Both were brothers, CID officials revealed. According to the security officials, the arrested criminal used to run a gang that was not only involved in the killings but also in other cases like robberies, kidnapping for ransom and extortion.
