A farmer brought a whole new meaning to the ancient art of branding by turning sheep into mobile advertising boards. James Metcalfe sprayed the logo of his turf business on the side of 20 of his newly-shorn flock as a way of getting round planning laws. His farm at Dalton near Richmond, North Yorkshire, lies next to the busy A1 and he is blocked from putting up billboards to advertise his business as they could distract drivers. He said: 'We just thought it would be a bit different. We wanted to put a sign up next to the A1 but planning is quite difficult. The sheep have just been sheared so it was an opportunity. They were quite happy with it. We used a stencil on each side and it only took a couple of seconds. The logo was sprayed on using an ink typically used by farmers to identify their animals. DM
