LAHORE (PR) The KEMU has clarified the news item published in daily TheNation on Saturday (June 18) about PhD examination that no unqualified or non PhD examiner has been appointed in the examinations of PhD during the last five years from 2006 till 2011. According to the rules and regulations duly approved by the Higher Education Commission for PhD examiners, thesis has to be evaluated by minimum two examiners belonging to foreign universities. This condition was complied with in case of both PhD scholars who have qualified till date. In both cases no examiner without having PhD qualification was appointed for viva voce and defense of thesis. As regard the case mentioned of Dr Afshan Qureshi, who recently qualified MD (Radiology), and that her examiners were un-qualified or possessing less qualification. It is worthwhile to mention rules and regulations of KEMU, Lahore approved and published in 2008 after prior approval of the Syndicate of KEMU an executive body headed by the vice chancellor, Senate of KEMU headed by the chancellor, KEMU. Examiner in MD, MS and Diploma examinations shall possess the same qualifications and experience as prescribed for professors in various subjects. So, no irregularity was done in appointment of examiners for Dr Afshan Qureshi recently graduated in MD (Radiology) from KEMU, Lahore because DMRD is an approved qualification for the post of Professor of Radiology, it said.
