Soldier, three militants killed in SWA clash

MAKIN (Agencies) One soldier was killed and two others were injured when a group of militants attacked a security checkpost in Ladha town of South Waziristan, triggering a gunfight on Saturday. Three militants were also killed in the fight. According to official sources, the skirmishes between insurgents and security forces were reported when Taliban fighters in the wee hours attacked security checkpost with automatic weapons and rocket launchers in Ladha, killing a soldier and inflicting injuries on two others. The attack was promptly retaliated by the security forces in which three militants were killed. One soldier was killed and two were injured in the attack, three militants were also killed in the retaliatory fire, a security official in Peshawar, told AFP. Once notorious as a bastion of Taliban and Uzbek fighters, Ladha was reduced to a shell of damaged buildings, piles of rubble and a ruined paramilitary fort after the military launched an operation in 2009. The reports of skirmishes between Taliban and security forces are worrisome for returning IDPs of SWA who were hoping for peaceful life in their hometown.
