ATTOCK - Encroachment has become one of the major problems of Attock and the authorities concerned seem reluctant to take any action against encroachers.

Most of the shopkeepers have encroached roads as they are in habit of displaying different items on roads, while vendors have permanently occupied footpaths as well as roads. All this has badly affected the beauty of Attock city. The wide roads of this city give a look of narrow streets, causing a lot of inconvenience for those coming for shopping. Wrong parking is another problem of this city as traffic police are silent spectators.

The people from different walks of life told The Nation that Tehsil Municipal Officerand his staff, who are responsible for the removal of encroachment, are reluctant to take any action. They alleged that encroachment has been done with the consent of these officials. They also alleged that the concerned officials receive bribe on monthly basis from the shopkeepers and vendors who have encroached roads and streets. The residents demanded of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to order an anti-encroachment drive across the Punjab and take strict action against those officers who fail to remove encroachments. This scribe tried to contact TMO Attock for his comments but he was not available.
