Karachi violence claims nine more lives

KARACHI  - Nine people, two political workers among them, were gunned down in separate acts of violence in Karachi on Tuesday.
An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead in Agra Taj Colony of Lyari area. The victim was identified as 38-yearold Waseem Siddiq, a resident of Garden area.
SHO Haji Sanaullah said the victim had arrived in Lyari when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot and injured him. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Initial investigation suggested Lyari gangsters were behind the killing.
Separately, an activist of Pakistan People’s Party was mowed down in Musharraf Colony of Maripur area. Identified as Ashiq Hussain, 38, the victim was shot multiple times and by unidentified attackers. The body was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said the victim was sitting outside his son’s snooker club when targeted. Police suspected he was shot dead over a personal dispute as he used to work as a property dealer.
In another incident, a motor mechanic, Shaukat Ali, was shot and killed by unidentified armed men and another, namely Shahzad, wounded in Usmanabad locality of Garden area. Tension simmered in the area after the incident and routine and commercial activities came to halt.
A short while after the incident, another man, namely Shahjahan aka Badshah Khan, was killed by unidentified attackers in Lashkari village of Garden area. Preliminary interrogation suggested Khan was killed by a rival group because his son was involved in murder of one Ali. DSP Hussain further said it turned out to be a ethnic violence as the mechanic belonged to Urdu-speaking community while the assailants were Baloch-speaking. An extra contingent of law enforcers was deployed in the area to avoid any further unwanted happening. An owner of a plastic factory, Abdul Naeem, was shot dead in SITE area when he was heading somewhere in his car along with his wife.
Police said the victim had come from Hyderabad for treatment of his son. Investigation indicated two armed men, riding a motorcycle, intercepted his vehicle, robbed his wife of her jewelry and opened fire on him when he put up resistance. The assailants, however, fled after committing the crime. Investigation is in an advanced stage.
Separately, a labourer Adam Khan, 29, was killed in a targeted attack near Banaras Chowk in Pirabad area. Police said a person, namely Afzal, had phoned and called him to the said area, but when Khan reached there a bike-borne duo opened fire on him. Police suspected personal enmity was the motive behind the killing.
A young man, Kamran Saeed, 28, was shot dead in Liaquatabad area. Police said the victim was going somewhere on his motorcycle when unidentified persons shot and killed him. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. Further investigation is underway.
Another young man was found dead in Jahangirabad area of Rizvia Society. Police said the victim had been shot in the head and that this body was dumped two days ago. The body was shifted to Edhi morgue for identification. Identification of the victim has yet to be ascertained.
Separately, an unidentified man was found dead near Sea view in Boat Basin area. Police suspected the man died natural death. Investigation is in progress.
