Outgoing Punjab governor Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Mehmood has warned the PML-N government of the same fate as the PPP and its allies faced if the Nawaz League failed to resolve the energy crisis. “The PPP suffered defeat especially in the Punjab only because it could not resolve the energy crisis.” said the Punjab governor talking to a delegation of Sadiqabad Press Club in Lahore. He said that the people are wise and in the future, they would vote for the party on the basis of service. He said that the media had played a pivotal role in highlighting the national problems. He said that the Sadiqabad media always guided him and his group. The former governor, whose resignation was recently accepted by President Asif Ali Zardari, also disclosed that his brother Syed Ali Akbar will contest the by-election from PPP-292 on the PPP ticket. He added that after resigning as Punjab governor, he would launch electioneering in the constituency. He claimed that he had reserved himself for serving the people of the constituency. The Press Club office-bearers included Junaid Kazmi, Allah Wasaya and Naveed Abbas.During a news conference on May 13, the outgoing Punjab governor had announced that he had sent his resignation to President Zardari. Mr Mahmood said the public had chosen the PML-N and that the mandate should be accepted. He also announced that he would no longer participate in parliamentary politics, but would continue to serve Pakistan in his own capacity. Mr Mahmood, a PML-F leader from south Punjab, had taken oath as Punjab governor on Dec 25 last year, following the resignation of Latif Khosa of the PPP.
