Minister briefed on POF operations

WAH CANTT - Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain along with Secretary Minister of Defence Production Lt Gen (R) Shahid Iqbal visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories Tuesday.
Chairman POF Board received the dignitaries and introduced them with the Members of POF Board & Senior Directors.
The minister was briefed about the production capabilities and it was informed that POF was the premier defence production complex of the country which is manufacturing a wide variety of conventional arms and ammunition for armed forces of Pakistan and is considered as lifeline to the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
In addition to meeting the requirements of Pakistan Armed Forces, the POF is exporting products to friendly countries and also having commercial production for sales within the country.  It was further told to Federal Minister that POF enjoys the facilities of huge infrastructure, highly skilled human resources and an efficient management structure, that is why POF is considered as mother defence industry of the country.
Briefing about modernization plan, POF Chairman told that in order to upgrade plants and machinery, a comprehensive plan duly approved by the ministry has been introduced.
According to this plan, agreements for technology transfer have been inked and some agreements are in the pipeline. He further said that it was a first major plan for technology transfer to POF after 1985. As a result, POF will be able to meet the defence needs of the country at a lower cost.
The minister was further informed that POF is also undertaking public private partnership ventures to improve the financial viability and efficiency of the setup.  Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain expressed his satisfaction over the performance of this defence institution.
He said that he was pleased to know about the performance of POF that the basic mandate given to POF to meet the requirements of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in terms of Arms and Ammunition is being fully met by POF. F
The minister said that he was glad to know that POF has introduced new weapons and ammunition and the workforce in POF is highly skilled and hardworking and that is why POF has earned a good name at international level. He expressed his satisfaction over modernization plan and assured his complete support for the completion of this plan.
