Prisoners at Sargodha District Jail staged protest demonstration against alleged torture on their colleague.

The protesters ransacked the equipment and climbed up the roof of barracks where they chanted slogans against the jail authorities. According to sources, the jail staff had badly tortured a prisoner over the recovery of a SIM during search. He said the bashing infuriated other prisoners and they started demonstration which continued over two hours. Later, they concluded their protest over the assurance of action against the jail officials for torturing. Meanwhile, jail authorities tried to conceal the incident but police and other law enforcing agencies reached there. The incident occurred before the visit of DIG Prison Punjab Rana Abdul Raouf to the jail.

On the other side, District and Sessions Judge Humayon Imtiz has ordered a judicial inquiry into the prisoners’ protest in the district jail and deputed Civil Judge Qamar Abbas as judicial inquiry officer.
