Activists of PAT staged sit-in in Fawara Chowk to protest against the Model Town incident and termed it the worst state terrorism.

PAT district President Malik Shafiqur Rehman, Secretary General Malik Muhammad Sultan, Gulzar Hussain and about 100 men and women demonstrated for more than seven hours.

DBA Hafizabad also observed complete strike to express their solidarity with the PAT activists. Sheikh Muhammad Amjad, the president of Markazi Anjuman Tajran, and other trader leaders including Seth Humayun, Haji Muhammad Rafique Mughal, Abdul Khaliq Khokhar, DBA Secretary General Malik Nazakat Ali, PPP leader Muhammad Arshad Mehind, Amanullah Sandhu, Syed Waseemul Hassan Naqvi and dozens of advocates also joined the protest camp to express their solidarity with the workers. They condemned the killing of workers in Lahore.

Meanwhile, the city police have registered a case under sections 148/149/341/186/353 PPC against 25 nominated and 110 unidentified workers of PAT who had injured the four policemen by pelting stones on Tuesday. The FIR has been sealed and the police are tight-lipped in disclosing the names of nominated accused.

FIRE ERUPTS: The patients in gynecology, eye ward particularly in children ward experienced ordeal after sudden fire in the children ward due to short-circuiting of electricity wires. Power supply remained disrupted in most of the wards for couple of hours. The fire was extinguished by the Rescue-1122 and hospital personnel. However, luckily no one was physically affected by the fire. MS Dr. Shahid Farooq has ordered an inquiry to ascertain the real cause of fire.

PLEDGE: SNGPL In-charge Akmal Shahzad has assured the citizens of increasing the pressure in gas supply in the city. The SDO WAPDA also assured the citizens that WAPDA would not increase more than 10-hour loadshedding in the city. On their assurance at a meeting held here in the DSP office, 23 local business, labour, religious and political parties have announced to call off their proposed strike on June 19.
