KARACHI - Two policemen were shot dead in separate incidents of target killings in Karachi on Wednesday.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) namely Tahir Ghazi, 43, was shot dead in at Khudadad Colony in Brigade police precincts.

SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said the victim was posted at the Soldier Bazaar police station. The incident took place when the victim was going to Jamshed divisional office at Ferozabad when two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted him. He was shot multiple times. He was immediately shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but he succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Similarly, a head constable identified as Saeed Ahmed, 40, was shot dead by armed motorcyclists at main MA Jinnah Road. SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi said the victim was posted at the Central Jail Karachi as a driver and was going on his duty when armed motorcyclists shot him dead. The body was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Sindh Inspector General of Police Iqbal Mahmood has constituted an inspection team under the AIG Research and Development to conduct survey and assessment of all the accommodation facilities of Sindh Police including the offices of police officers and police stations.

He directed launching of inspection work from the police stations of Karachi Range. “The inspection team should evaluate the existing infrastructure, details about available arms and ammunition, maintenance of police registers and others. The anomalies identified must be incorporated in the report of inspection team along with the necessary recommendations,” he stressed.

Presiding over a meeting at Central Police Office (CPO), the IGP reviewed the overall law and order situation. He issued directives to transfer all cases related to slain police officers to the Crime Branch with a directive to trace all such cases on fast track. He also revisited the investigation progress especially related to murder cases under different heads in the province and directed to submit report and conviction rate of the cases registered/reported during the last five years.

The IGP also reviewed the performance of Command and Control Centre and Madadgar 15 situated in CPO. He directed the Training DIG and IT director to device a training programme for the police staff, deputed there, on urgent basis.

He directed the SSP Muhafiz Force to adopt immediate measures to streamline the affairs of Madadgar 15.

Iqbal further directed to expedite appointment of consultants/specialists in the police hospital, Karachi. He further ordered the DIG Finance to ensure supply of ample medicines to the police hospitals at Karachi and Hyderabad.

AIG Operations informed the meeting that police hospital at Sukkur was near completion and this would cater to the medical facilities of the Sukkur Range. The Sindh IGP also apprised him of the progress into town planning of the land for the heirs of the police martyrs in Karachi and directed to accelerate the pace of work.
