LAHORE - Millions of people exchanged greetings and offered dua after sighting Ramazan moon.

The purchase of sehri items for the first Ramazan increased rush at food markets. Arrangements were also finalised for holding sehri dastarkhwan at the government and private level.

People offered taraweh prayers at thousands of mosques throughout the country amid foolproof security. Badsahi Masjid, Masjid Data Darbar, Masjid Shohada, Masjide Ahle Hadith (Shahra Dr Majid Nizami), Jamia Naeemia, Jamia Ashrafia, Masjid Darul Islam, Jamia Qadsia, Masjid Wazir Khan, Muslim Masjid and Masjid Neela Gumbad are among the main mosques in Lahore where elaborate taraweh and sehri arrangements have been made.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has congratulated the nation on the arrival of Ramazanul Mubarak and said that Ramazan is the month of earning the blessings of Allah Almighty through prayers and worship.

The chief minister said that this month gives a message of sacrifice and we should pay maximum attention to the welfare of our deserving brethren and sisters.

He said that the government announced historic Ramazan Package of Rs3.5 billion for the provision of flour to the masses at cheaper rate during Ramazan-ul-Mubarak while flour, ghee, sugar, fruits, vegetables and pulses will also be available at concessionary rates in Ramazan bazaars with the cooperation of concerned associations.

The Punjab government has announced new official timings for the month of Ramazan. As per notification all those offices which work for five days would remain open from 8am to 2 pm while on Friday from 8am to 1am. Timings for those offices which work six days a week would remain open from 8am to 1pm while on Friday from 8am to 12pm.
