LAHORE - Like other parts of the world, the Father’s Day will be celebrated in Pakistan today (Sunday).
The event has gained attention in recent years and mainly due to social media that people honour and cherish the man in their lives who plays a major role in who they become as adults.
Coming in the heels of Mother’s Day which is celebrated in May, the Father’s Day is celebrated on 3rd Sunday of the month June.
It was first originated in United States in 1910. The first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington by a Sonora Smart Dodd, at YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association), who after hearing a sermon on Mother’s Day asked pastor for a similar holiday for fathers because she had been raised by a single father of six children.
She originally suggested the day to be celebrated on her father’s birthday but the pastors needed time for preparation of sermons so 3rd Sunday of June was declared as Father’s Day.
Today Father’s Day is celebrated around the world; some countries have decided their own dates for the occasion.
In Pakistan, there are different ways to mark the day but usually involve personalised gifts, and family gatherings where we laugh, eat and make the fathers feel special on their day.
In Lahore different brands are offering special discounts at different outlets especially uptown. In Fortress Square they have arranged games for children and there will be competitions to win gift hampers.
