ECP rejects Imran, Gulalai and Shahid Khaqan’s nomination papers for NA-53

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has turned down the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Ayesha Gulalai who had been affiliated with PTI in the past, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N for the NA-53 constituency of Islamabad.

The returning officer rejected the nomination papers over the violation of the Section N of the affidavit which is about the contributions by the candidate in their constituency.

All the candidates have failed to fill the affidavit as per requirement, the returning officer added.

Imran Khan’s nomination papers for NA-53 had been challenged last week.

Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party (PJDP) leader Abdul Wahab Baloch raised objections and pointing out the Sitawhite case, he argued that PTI Chairman Imran Khan is ineligible to contest the elections as he did not meet the criteria laid under the articles of 62, 63 of the constitution.

The candidates have decided to challenge the decision in the election tribunal.
