SWABI - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, President Asad Qaisar said on Sunday that if his party got power in the upcoming general elections, they would immediately hold the local government elections, which had been pushed under the carpet by the present regime.

Talking to media after a meeting, he said that without the local government system it might be difficult to smoothly run the government affairs. Owing to vitality of this system, developed counties never interrupted it, he observed. “The world entities had not only kept intact this system but also have also given free hands to the local representatives to reach their people and resolve their problems at the local level,” he said.

In contrast, local governments did not work independently in our country because of different reasons. Flanked by district office-bearers of the party he said that in our country the selfish politicians had never given due importance to the local government system and the result was suffering of the masses.

“The problem in our country was that the politicians focused on their personal interest instead of working for the country and its masses,” he said. “The latest example is the Mehrangate case and the claim of Younas Habib that how he distributed public money among politicians,” he said. He said the local government system must be kept on running in Pakistan because 80 to 85 per cent of our population has been living in the rural areas.
