Counsel of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani in the contempt of court case, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said on Monday the Supreme Court should not issue verdict in the contempt case without hearing him.

Talking to media persons outside the Supreme Court, he said that it is not necessary that court’s verdict will result in disqualification of PM Gilani. He said that some elements wanted to create a rift between the government and judiciary, but they will not succeed.

On the last date of hearing, a seven-member bench, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, had told Aitzaz that he could submit a written reply on behalf of his client or apprise the Registrar Office if the accused contemnor wanted to appear in person. The bench made it clear that in any case, the hearing would be resumed on March 21.
