FAISALABAD – The Punjab police have carved out a phased Police Reform Programme to make Punjab a crime free province of the Country, said Punjab Inspector General Police Haji Habibur Rehmand.

He was addressing an open court in the police lines here Sunday. The open court was also attended by RPO, Aftab Ahmed Cheema, CPO, Bilal Siddique Kamyana, DPO Chiniot Rana Shahzad and DPO Jhang, Abdul Karim and Representatives of Media.

The IGP said that concerted efforts are being made to implement vision of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, by weeding out crime. He said that 100 model police stations are being set up in the province while investigation system has also been reorganised on modern scientific lines.

He said that police efforts are meant to give sense of security to the people while a number of welfare projects are underway to encourage the honest, committed and dedicated police officials in addition to taking deterrent action against black sheep plaguing the disciplined police force.

The IGP said that elimination of street crimes, providing protection and justice to people is the top priority of the present government and added that in this connection collaborated efforts are needed. He said that a ‘new police culture” is being introduced to convert police stations from torture dens to the peace stations.

He added, “To achieve this objective, we need committed and honest police officials and he would not only acknowledge but also encourage these officials. Most of the powers are provincial level are being devolved to the district and divisional police officers while honest, experienced and committed officials are being posted as SHOs throughout the province.”

He directed the regional and district police heads to submit him reports regarding the arrest of notorious proclaimed offenders and courts deserters on daily basis. He also asked the police officials to discharge their professional obligations with a sense of self accountability as there were also answerable to Almighty Allah.

The IG said that he has submitted a summary to the chief minister for recruitment of two children of every martyred police official. He appreciated the gallant role of the DPOs of Chiniot and Jhang and other police officials. He received written applications and also heard the verbal complaints of the police officials.
