KARACHI - ANISUDDIN KHAN - After holding favourite and strong Pakistan Army to goalless draw in regulation time, Pakistan Navy stunned their opponent on penalty kicks 4-3 to enter the semi final of National Football Challenge Cup here on Sunday at KPT football stadium.

Pakistan Army which was

among the favourites to reach the final contest paid heavily for missing during the regulation time of the quarter final and when it came to penalty kick session they could not withstand the pressure and slumped to unexpected defeat.

Pakistan Navy converted their kicks through Ramzan Ahmed, Nomi Martin Gill, Shahid Muneer and Abdul Haq.

Pakistan Army’s players who converted the penalty kicks were Imran Hussain, Shabbir Hussain and Akhter Hussain.

In the second quarter final Wapda squeezed through to 3-2 verdict against PWD. Wapda which had gained winning 3-1 lead in the 85th minute held on to that advantage in the face of heavy onslaught in the closing minutes of play and were somewhat lucky to win the match and a semi final berth.

Wapda striker and captain Arif Mahmood struck twice first in 49th and 85th minute and Manzoor Ahmed scored the third goal in 54th minute.

PWD’s M Hussain scored in 44th minute and M Jan in the third minute of the stoppage time. As the clocked clicked towards the final hooter PWD exerted tremendous pressure but time ran out on them. The other two quarter finals will be played on Monday at the same venue.
