In a daredevil dacoity, robbers looted jewellery and cash worth more than one million rupee from newly married couple and wedding party here in Gujranwala on Monday morning.

According to details, armed robbers stopped vehicles carrying wedding party at Titley Aali Road of Gujranwala and started looting cash and other valuables at gun point.

The robbers took away 20 tolas of gold ornaments from bride, Rs 90,000 cash, mobile phones and other valuables from the newly married couple and other participants of the ceremony who were returning back from the bride's house.

The robbers tortured the bride when she offered resistance during jewellery snatching and opened aerial firing to terrify the wedding ceremony participants.

The looting incident took place few yards away from the police check post located in the area but the law enforcement personnel played the role of silent spectator.

The CPO Gujranwala taking serious notice of the incident has directed an immediate inquiry. He said police officials found guilty in negligence towards their duty would be treated in accordance with the law.

The citizens of Gujranwala have expressed their deep anger over the incident and demanded the authorities to nab the culprits without delay. They blamed that crimes in the district were on rise but police have taken no step to overcome the lawlessness and give protection to public lives and properties.
