LAHORE - Central leader of PML-N and MNA, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif has said that options are open including dialogue with the Taliban for the maintenance of peace.

He said that Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is striving hard to make the country a haven of peace and our leadership is committed to establishment of peace.  He expressed these views while addressing the ceremony and talking to the media on the occasion of release of 84 poor prisoners at Central Jail Kot Lakhpat on Tuesday.

He said that no party alone can do this work therefore, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has also met Imran Khan and taken him into confidence.

He said that our leadership is taking every step carefully and Prime Minister will give the country a gift of peace. Replying to a question, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that the economy of the country is improving. He said that prisoners had completed their imprisonment but due to non-payment of fine and “diyat” were still in prison.

Minister for Prisons Abdul Waheed, Minister for Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Members Provincial Assembly Shazia Matto, Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Mian Naseer and Rana Shamshad besides IG Prisons, Punjab, Farooq Nazir and other senior officials of Prison Department were present on the occasion. Hamza Shahbaz presented gifts of Easter to Christian prisoners. He also inaugurated public call office for the facility of the prisoners.

He also inaugurated newly established X-rays unit in the hospital of jail.

Hamza said that water filtration plants will be installed in all jails of the province. He said that prisoners will be provided all basic and recreational facilities including sports complex in the jails.

He said that arrangements are being made for training and monitoring of jail wardens to improve their attitude with the prisoners. He said that attention is being paid to reformation of jails.

Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, who is also Chairman Taskforce on Prisons, said that he had also undergone six months imprisonment and aware about the problems of prisoners, adding, that he is committed to resolve their difficulties.

He said that sheds have been constructed for the families, visiting prisoners in jails.  He said that residences have been provided to doctors in jails. He said that dozens of projects aimed at welfare of prisoners including increase of Rs 30 in the amount of daily Rs 50 for food of prisoners.

He said that service to the humanity is best form of politics. He stressed upon prisoners released to serve their parents after returning their homes and earn the blessings of Almighty Allah.

Speaking on the occasion Inspector General, Prisons Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazir threw light on the ongoing development projects in jails of the province.

He said that within last two years several jails reforms were made out of which Shaheed Package for staff and formation of Prisons Foundations were more important. Apart from above said reforms many others steps were taken which would help to boost the image of jails in the eyes of prisoners.

He said that keeping in view the current wave of terrorism in the country and province as well, latest training was imparted to jails staff to confront with the terrorist activities, latest ammunition was purchased and latest technology was achieved to run the affairs of jails in the province.
