Convict illegally released, arrested

ISLAMABAD - The law enforcement agencies have arrested another convict Qamar Gondal who was transferred from UK to Pakistan in 2010 through exchange of prisoners treaty but had later managed to get free from jail fraudulently.
The Ministry of Interior said that arrest had been made on the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
The convict was jailed for 11 years in UK for possessing drugs and came to Pakistan to serve his remaining sentence under an agreement.
Soon after his arrival in Pakistan, he was released illegally and prematurely from jail in connivance with the government authorities.
Before him, three other accused involved in similar illegal release from jail have already been arrested from Pakistan, Ecuador and UAE.
Federal Investigation Agency is also conducting an inquiry on the issue. Pakistan has recently suspended all its treaties of exchange of prisoners with foreign countries after Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan came to know that such prisoners used to get free prematurely from local jails in connivance with some officials of the Ministry of Interior, prison departments concerned and police.
