We bid farewell to two legends of the game yesterday. Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena. They have been the backbone of Sri Lankan batting for what seems like forever now. They have steered their team to countless victories. They have seen the team through numerous ups and downs. Both of them have captained the side as well. They have been true patrons of Sri Lankan cricket. However, their rich careers came to a cheep end. It is highly unfortunate for them to have to depart from cricket the way they did. South Africa was always going to be a tough side but the Sri Lankans must have backed themselves to have performed much better. Dilshan and Sangakkara who have been the top scorers in the World Cup for Sri Lanka seemed out of sorts. Dilshan got out for 0 whereas Sangakkara played a strange last innings. Very rarely have we seen him get stuck on the crease like he did yesterday. All abilities of rotating the strike had left him. A lot was expected of Jayawardena especially considering he had not fired in the tournament till now. But he disappointed as well. All in all it was a very poor performance by the Lankans which gave an easy way to the South Africans to the semis. Not taking anything away from them, they completely deserve to be there as well. On a side note, Pakistan Vs. Australia is tomorrow. We have got the momentum on our side to defeat the hosts. Good luck, Team Pakistan.
