RAWALPINDI – An 18-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured when three armed men opened fire at them over dispute of fixing electricity cable in Dhakailer village in Jhand area, police said.

The deceased girl was identified as Shaista Andaleeb and her maimed mother as Naseem Akhtar wife of Altaf Hussain, who was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Raja Bazaar for medical treatment. The armed killer managed to escape from the scene while police registered case and started investigation.

According to police, the incident took place at 8:30am today when a brawl occurred between two parties in Dhakailer village in Jhand, the jurisdiction of Police Station Injra, over issue of fixing an electricity cable. On this, one group including Tariq, Hakeem Khan and his son Bashir whipped out weapons and started indiscriminate firing towards the ladies. As a result, both mother and daughters sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to hospital. A heavy contingent of police rushed to the incident place and cordoned off the area.

However, Shaista died on the way to hospital whereas her mother was shifted to DHQ Rawalpindi for medical treatment, police informed.

The killers escaped from crime scene. Police lodged a murder case against them and started investigation.

Meanwhile, Injra police conducted a raid at Dhoke Shadi and arrested three notorious drug peddlers namely Zafar Iqbal, Zafar Islam and Muhammad Anwar. Police also recovered 3.5 kg Charas, 515 grams of heroin, a Kalashnikov and 10 bullets from their possession besides lodging case against them, a police spokesman informed.
