islamabad - Taking cognisance of various complaints of overseas Pakistanis regarding delay in issuance of NICOPS and passports due to verifications by police and other agencies, the federal ombudsman yesterday directed the secretary interior to complete the verifications within 30 days.

Grievance Commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis for Federal Ombudsman, Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmed Khokhar in this regard called a meeting at the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat on 24-03-2016.

According to the data, a total of 1,312 requests for verification of particulars of Pakistanis living abroad have been received in the ministry of interior.

The commissioner said considerable delay occurs in dispatch of applications received by Missions from Pakistan nationals abroad, which further delays the process of issuance of police clearance certificates.

He said that clearance certificates should be issued within 4 weeks, adding in that regarding directions have been issued to the secretary foreign affairs for streamlining issue of such request to ministry of interior for further processing with provincial police department.

Hafiz Ahsaan further said that after cognisance of Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat, the ministry of interior have issued letters to IGPs of Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Gilgit, Quetta, and Muzaffarabad to make their best so that police certificate could be issued within 4 weeks and also focal persons in respective police departments may be nominated for effective liaison and quick disposal.

He said that strong mechanism should be made by ministries of foreign affairs and interior so that this issued of police clearing certificate be streamlined.
