NHA approves flyover on Gujrat Bypass

ISLAMABAD  - The Executive Board of National Highway Authority (NHA) has approved the construction of flyover at Shaheen Chowk on Gujrat Bypass (N-5) in district Gujrat.
The decision was taken in a meeting at the NHA Headquarters held here yesterday. Chairman NHA Shahid Ashraf Tarar presided over the meeting. The meeting was informed that Shaheen Chowk is one of the most congested points on G.T. Road (N-5) as the entire traffic from Lahore and Sargodha to Rawalpindi (and vice versa) as well as normal traffic of N-5 converge here. This is causing disarrayed traffic movement with reduced safety. The construction of a flyover would, therefore, greatly help in smoothing the flow of traffic at this particular place. The scope of work includes construction of bridge, ramps, service road and rehabilitation of existing road. The project is being financed by the federal government and was awarded to M/s SARCO, the lowest evaluated responsive bidder at a bid price of Rs82.04 million, which is 9.61 per cent below the engineer’s estimate, thus resulting in a considerable amount as saving to the national exchequer.
Those attended the meeting included Syed Ghazanfar Abbas Gailanii, Additional Secretary, Finance Division, Muhammad Saleem Bhatti, IG, NH&MP, Malik Ahmed Khan, Member (Infrastructure), P&D Division, Nazir Ahmad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Communications, Amna Imran Khan, Chief NTRC, Azhar Masood, NESPAK, Raja Nowsherwan, Member (Planning) NHA, Shoaib Ahmad Khan, Member (Finance) NHA and Ali Akbar Memon, Secretary NHA.
