ISLAMABAD - The weekly inflation for the week ended on March 17 for the combined income group witnessed an increase of 0.17 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the mentioned group was recorded at 214.61 points against 214.24 points registered in the previous week, according to data of PBS. Similarly, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review also increased by 3.54 percent.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 increased by 0.14 percent as it went up from 206.16 points in the previous week to 206.48 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 and 18,001-35,000 increased by 0.16 percent, 0.17 percent, 0.18 percent and 0.18 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 12 items registered decrease, while that of 10 items increase with the remaining 31 items' prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included eggs, LPG cylinder (11kg), pulse gram (washed), pulse moong (washed), wheat, pulse masoor (washed), gur, mustard oil, sugar, milk fresh and wheat bag.

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included garlic, chicken live (farm), tomatoes, bananas, potatoes, lawn, vegetable ghee (pouch), pulse mash (washed) onions and red chilly powder.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice basmati (broken), rice irri-6, bread, beef, mutton, curd, powder milk, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), salt powder, cooked daal, tea prepared cup, cigarettes, georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, fire wood, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, patrol, hi-speed diesel, telephone calls local and bath soap.
