Kabul, Washington trying to end militancy from Afghanistan: Aizaz

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary said that Pakistan is stressing for Taliban’s participation in future set up of Afghanistan as Kabul and Washington are working to end militancy from the country.

Speaking to a Women Foreign Policy group in Washington, he said that the example of Gulbadin Hikmat Yar is relevant as his name was omitted from the list of UN-designated terrorists and given place in political setup.

He was of the opinion that similar policy can be formed for Taliban too.

The Pakistani envoy said that Taliban are considering this offer but interestingly they didn’t see any public response on this issue. He said that they are familiar with efforts of Washington to resume talks between Afghan government and Taliban by US Defence Secretary James Mattis.

He was of the opinion that there are quite bright chances of peace in Afghanistan considering recent developments.

Aizaz Ahmed Said that Pakistan always stressed for dialogue because it believes there is no military solution to this war. He was of the opinion that this war takes thousands of lives every year and this should be stopped now.
