It will not be out of place to say that the foremost beneficiary of law enforcing agencies' operation in Balochistan was the populace of the area. There is marked change in the mindset, perception and behaviour of people. They have been exposed to new vistas of life and can see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. As a result of the measures put in place by government, there is a definite change in the pattern of miscreants' activities. The effective strategy of law enforcing agencies has resulted in large scale surrenders and elimination of miscreants. Still, the threat is not entirely over because there is still some presence of the of the extremist Baloch radicals, the so-called 'Balochistan Liberation Army'. The previous government had taken important steps in the area for improvement in the field of education, health women emancipation, and road infrastructure, employment, and community welfare. Now with the change of government, the new rulers have to take all these things to their logical end by expediting the following:- a. Development works already initiated. b. Socio-political and economic uplift. c. Constant pressure for surrender on miscreants and their de-weaponization. d. Settlement of tribal disputes. e. More job opportunities for masses. f. Ensuring writ of government before signing any agreement/pact with any militant group. -SHAHERYAR KHAN, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, April 30.
