'Whether glass is half full or half empty' is an adage often quoted as a barometer for gauging positive or negative thinking. But whether half empty or half full, the stomach with out two square meals is still hungry. The overwhelming majority of the world's poor go to sleep on empty, or half-empty, stomachs. This hunger is being manipulated through shortages, scarcities and future trades in grains. These markets of hunger must be decimated to save the world from poverty, hunger, disease and future wars. -S.J. KHAN, Lahore, via e-mail, May 8.
