A security issue

The capital development authority have carved out a park from the greens that ran along the Islamabad highway opposite sector I-8/3 and named it the Katchnar Park. All the mulberry trees in this area have been chopped off so that I-8/3 is visible from the highway. There is, however, a corner at the end of the Katchnar Park in I-8/4, just behind the police checkpost at Islamabad entry point that gives the look of a no man's land. This area is perhaps outside the jurisdiction of CDA and is privately owned and occupied by local inhabitants of Rawalpindi. It is thickly covered with high-grown trees, bushes, shrubs and gross and is, thus, a great threat to the security of the residents of I-8/3, 4 and Faizabad. This thicket is actually a perfect 'safe haven' for miscreants, anti-social elements, thieves, robbers, extremist, drug pushers and dacoits after they commit a crime. I request the chairman CDA, cabinet & home secretaries and other concerned authorities dealing with security and intelligence matters to get this area combed and cleaned and ensure clearing of brush here to make this whole patch visible for the policemen deputed at the police checkpost here. It is better to be wise and avert a tragedy now than to repent and blame others after a mishap. -RAJA SHAFAATULLAH, Islamabad, via e-mail, May 11.
