LAHORE Ajoka Theatre on Wednesday staged its new play 'Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, based on the life of Bhagat Singh at Alhamra Hall, The Mall. Directed by Madeeha Gauhar and written by Shahid Nadeem, the play was a tribute to the great son of Punjab. According to Ajoka, the play is an attempt to correct historical distortions. The play brought some little known historical facts relating to Bhagat Singhs ideology and his trial into light. The event attracted a large number of viewers including youth, children and families. They not only enjoy the play but, according to them, they learnt a lot about the history and the three revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukhdev who sacrificed their lives just for independence and to save the rights of their peoples. Rai Rabnawaz, a peace activist, said Ajokas efforts to educate the masses especially the youth were really admirable. When the people are facing terrorism and target killings and having a mum over the issues, Ajokas effort to entertain them is commendable, he added. Fatima Mullick, a viewer from Karachi said she always loved to enjoy Ajoka productions as it came up with new subjects aimed at sensitising the masses about social issues. This is marvelous play, having saga of great revolutionary and everyone should come to view the other face of the history, she added.
