Five residents of Bhimbher district, AJK including four women died after their car fell into upper Jhelum canal in jurisdiction of adjoining Sarai Alamgeer town late the other night, the police said.

“Yes, all the ill-fated persons, including women, belong to Kool Zaireen village situated in the remit of Ali Baig Police of Bhimbher District of AJK”, said Deputy In-charge of Police Station Muhammad Shehzad while talking to The Nation on the telephone on Monday.

The ill-fated persons who lost their lives included Zahid Hussain, son of Muhammad Sadiq and his wife Gulzar Begam, Nasreen Akhter, wife of Tufail Hussain, Nazir Begam, wife of Muhammad Faazil, all residents of Kool Zaireen village and Malkiya Begam, wife of Mohammad Boota belonged to village Matrial.

Bodies of all the ill-fated persons, reportedly, belonging to two separate families, were recovered from the canal by the rescue teams and were shifted to their native village in district Bhimbher for burial.

They were aboard the car from their village through old Mirpur-Sarai Alamgeer for onward journey to the village of Baghli of Sarai Alamgeer to mourn the death of one of their relatives.

All the deceased were buried in their respective native villages in presence of hundreds of their survivors on Monday.

Meanwhile, two persons of the same family were electrocuted in adjoining Islamgarh town late the other night.

The ill-fated Muhammad Rafique, son of Baba Alaf Din and his brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Pervez Iqbal alias Sadam, son of Shah Muhammad lost their lives when an iron escalator touched a live wires passing along the rooftop of their house during a wedding ceremony in village Bandore.

The incident turned festivities of the wedding into mourning in the house. Both the youth were later laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard.
