Islamabad - The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will extend all-out support to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) through universities to develop research groups and clusters in various sectors, said Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed during his meeting with Chairman PAEC Mohammad Naeem during the latter’s visit to the HEC Secretariat on Monday.
The core purpose of the meeting was to join hands to develop R&D priorities at national level and build synergy between the two apex organisations in the country. Dr Mukhtar Ahmed shared HEC’s significant investments towards developing institutional facilities, introduction of new disciplines in market-based technologies, development of human resource including faculty, improvement in research facilities and various linkages with local and foreign universities. He also dwelt on HEC’s activities for capacity building of researchers and support to universities in promotion of research as well as commercialisation of research.
This was Chairman PAEC’s first visit to HEC after assuming the charge in April this year. He expressed his appreciation for HEC’s role in developing human resource of the country and promoting research culture in Pakistan through various research and development initiatives.
He was of the view that PAEC can share its human resource and R&D facilities to scientists working in various science and technology fields in order to guide Pakistan on the path of prosperity. He said research should reflect its effect in application. He stressed the need to encourage priority fields in which applied research could present tangible result that would benefit socioeconomic needs, he said.
