LAHORE - Following his soured relations with his ex-confidant and close aide, Zulfiqar Mirza, former President Asif Ali Zardari is on a fence-mending exercise these days with other estranged party men.
A few days back, he buried the hatchet with Senator Babar Awan whom he had discarded way back in 2012 following latter’s refusal to take the responsibility of not writing a letter to the Swiss authorities against him when he was in the presidency.
Consequently, then Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had to go home as the court held him responsible for not writing letter to the Swiss court to reopen a cases against Asif Ali Zardari.
On Saturday, Zardari called in estranged PPP leader from Okara, Ashraf Sohna at Islamabad to persuade him to stay in the PPP. Earlier, there were reports that Sohna was planning to join the PTI.
Mr Sohna is now enjoying the hospitality of Asif Ali Zardari for the last over three days. “My leader is not allowing me to return home. He wants me to be with him at Islamabad”, Sohna told The Nation on telephone. He also denied reports that he was going to quit the PPP.
Sohna is not happy with Asif Ali Zardari for nominating a non-jiyala- Mian Manzoor Wattoo-as party’s central Punjab president.
