KHYBER AGENCY/ORAKZAI At least 22 militants and two personnel of security forces were killed during clashes and heavy firing in Orakzai and Khyber agencies on Friday. Sources said clashes ware erupted in Wach Wana area of Orakzai agency when security forces were making further advance. The exchange of fire continued for three hours and both the parties used heavy and sophisticated weapons. The firing resulted in killing of Lance Nike Maqsood Khan and eight militants. Security forces later targeted the suspected hideouts of militants in Nawab Garhi, Mano Pai and Barlas Akhun Kot area in which eight hideouts of militants were destroyed. In another crackdown in Chafar area, security forces targeted two vehicles in killing nine militants. Security forces have been conducting military operation in the area for the last four days in which several important hideouts of miscreants have been razed to ground. The restive areas of Orakzai Agency include Dabori, Arhag, Zahtoon, Gandi Tal, Weghan, Khadezai, Kronchki where security forces are busy in operation. On the other hand, TTP spokesman for the Orakzai chapter, Hafiz Saeed, claimed that heavy losses had been inflicted on security forces and no Taliban militant was killed during operation. He said Taliban militants had obstructed the security forces advancement in the area and their dozen of vehicle had been damaged during exchange of fire. Meanwhile, security forces killed five militants while an FC man was also martyred in shoot out with militants held in Nala Kajuri area of tehsil Bara in Khyber Agency on Friday. The forces sources said that Frontier Corp (FC) troops were busy in search operation against the insurgents in Nala Kajuri area when they were attacked by militants. During firing one FC soldier identified as Saeed was killed and another sustained injuries, sources added. In retaliation the forces shot dead five militants. At least 35 militants have been killed and several injured in clashes and shelling of gunship helicopters during last 42 hours in central Kurram and Orakzai tribal region bordering Afghanistan, sources in political administration said on Friday. Separately, a civilian was killed in mortar shell strike fired from some unknown place here in Malikdin tehsil Bara on Friday, locals said. They said the shell fired by suspected militants landed at the Sipah Village in Malikdin Khel, killed Sher Mohammad on the spot and another mortar hit a passenger pick up injuring three, they added. A woman and a child were killed as a mortar shell hit their house in Barizone area in Central Kurram. The forces backed by gunship helicopters are targeting the militants hideouts in the restive parts of the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
