ISLAMABAD (APP) Federal Minister of National Heritage and Integration, Samina Khalid Ghurki here Friday called for introducing the young generation with the cultural values and traditional heritage. During her visit to Lok Virsa, National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage and Heritage Museum, she said, Though a lot of work has already been done for the preservation of Pakistans culture in the country, but we still need to have a more cohesive approach in ensuring fruitful interaction with youth so that the younger generation should get acquainted with the traditional values inherited to us by our forefathers. To achieve this target, we would rope in educational institutions encouraging student community to interact with Lok Virsas valuable assets such as heritage museum and the heritage library. In order to fight extremism, we need to devise an alternate engagement strategy for promoting our soft image of the country to the outer world through culture, she said. Khalid Javaid, Executive Director and other senior officials of the institute briefed the minister about three dimensional creative dioramas at the first state museum of ethnology, popularly known as Heritage Museum at Lok Virsa, depicting living cultural traditions and lifestyles of the people of Pakistan including the remotest regions. The minister took keen interest in the hall of antiquity and continuity, hall of ballads and romances, thematic display on textile presenting the mastery of women artisan, hall of architecture portraying more than thirty two dying traditional architectural skills such as mirror work, marble intarsia, fresco work, tile mosaic, pietra dura, blue tiles, etc. Addressing the meeting of Lok Virsa officers, the minister, who is also the chairperson of Lok Virsa board of governors, highly appreciated the efforts of Lok Virsa in documenting and preserving the cultural heritage of Pakistan in such a beautiful and professional manner.
