Our Staff reporter BAHAWALPUR - The support announced by PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif for the restoration of Bahawalpur provincial status reflects that now there is no opposition in Punjab to the restoration of Bahawalpurs former status while other three provinces have already announced full support to and endorsement on the demand. Former federal information and broadcasting minister Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani stated this while talking to journalists here on Friday. The statement made by the head of the major political party reflects the national consensus on the restoration of the Bahawalpur province, he said. Durrani expressed his gratitude to Nawaz Sharif for supporting the restoration of the Bahawalpur province and declared his statement as the expression of peoples sentiments and moral victory of the movement for the restoration of the Bahawalpur province. He expressed his hope that the PML-N chief would join the struggle of the people of Bahawalpur for the abolition of the unconstitutional step of the martial law regime. He hoped that by getting the accord that was reached between the Quaid-i-Azam and Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi-V, Nawaz Sharif would prove to be a true Pakistani and follower of Quaid-i-Azam.The mention of the restoration of Bahawalpur State by the PML-N chief shows that he supports the cause with the limits that existed when Bahawalpur was a separate state and which were altered by Yahya Khan while forcibly annexing Bahawalpur with the Punjab, Senator Durrani said. The former minister said that this statement was the real compensation for the injustices meted out to the people of Bahawalpur in the past and the recognition of the sacrifices offered by the people of the region at the time of Pakistans independence. He said now when the whole nation has agreed to the restoration of Bahawalpur province, the federal government should immediately announce the restoration through an executive order. Durrani demanded President Asif Zardari to stop the prime minister from taking the unconstitutional and criminal step of spreading lingual hatred and bind him to take prompt measures for the restoration of the Bahawalpur province in accordance with the recommendations of the Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions and agreements of the state of Pakistan. The people of Bahawalpur want that instead of doing politics on the issue, their province should immediately be restored, Senator Durrani claimed. He said that people of the region were united under the leadership of Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi for teh cause.
