KARACHI - A passenger and a rickshaw driver were killed and two others wounded when gas cylinder of a passenger bus exploded in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Sunday.

The explosion occurred on the premises of a filling station on Abul Hassan Isphani Road.

Police said it was not an act of terrorism.

Following the explosion, police and Rangers reached the spot and cordoned off the entire locality.

The passenger killed in the explosion was identified as Ayub, 42, son of Hanif, and the injured rickshaw driver as Ayaz, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Sources said the police had also obtained CCTV footage that suggested that the explosion occurred during the refilling.

They said that the driver and cleaner of the bus managed to escape from the scene but the vehicle was impounded.

DSP Farhat Kamal said the gas cylinder of the bus was faulty and was out of order due to which it exploded.

A case has been registered against the driver and the owner of the bus and raids are being carried out for their arrests.
