KARACHI – Led by the Palestine Foundation of Pakistan, scores of people on Sunday voiced support for the cause of Palestine and condemned Israeli attacks on the city of Gaza.

The demonstrators also raised slogans against America and European countries backing Israel. Besides burning flags of the US and Israel, the charged protesters also set afire effigies of US President Barack Obama and Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu outside the Press Club.

Addressing the protesters, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chapter chief Mohammad Hussain Mehanti said, “We demand the United Nations, Arab League, Organisation of the Islamic Conference and European Union to play effective and pivotal role to stop the massacre of innocent people of Gaza.”

Allama Aqeel Anjum of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan said Gaza had been under Israeli siege since April 2007. He lamented that neither the so-called champions of human rights in Europe and the US nor Muslim governments played their role against the Zionist atrocities. Allama Amin Shaheedi, the deputy secretary general of the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, asserted that armed resistance to the Israeli occupation was the only option left to the Palestinians and Lebanese.

Senior politician Mehfooz Yar Khan, PLF spokesman Sabir Karbalai and Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, sister Dr Aafia Siddiqui, announced all-out support to Hamas, Hezbollah and other resistance groups against Israeli aggression on Palestine and Lebanon. They said that more than 50 people had been killed in fresh airstrikes by Israeli forces. They also condemned the assassination of senior Hamas military commander Ahmed Jabbari in an Israeli attack. They asserted that durable peace in Middle East was not possible without the elimination of Israel.

They said the United States was equally responsible for the massacre of innocent people of Gaza because the Zionist regime enjoyed its full support.
