KARACHI - The Education department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is issuing the salaries to ghost employees since several years, The Nation Learnt.
 The department engaged in embezzlement of million rupees through issuing salaries to ghost employees.
KMC inquiry and inspection department in October 2012, initiated investigation following the rejoining of a primary school teacher after some eight years and found 26 cases of departmental embezzlement.
Inquiry department revealed that a woman school teacher went on a leave and did not join school since the last eight years. During the years her salaries continued to be issued by the department from January 2004 to December 2012. As the case appeared a committee had been formed by Director Human Resources Management Ahsan Mirza comprising on Director Welfare Aslam, Advocate Legal Department Sultan Ahmed, Director IA, Mansoor Qazi, Director IT Abdul Nasir and Director HRM Asim Raza.
During the course of investigation, the committee found 26 similar cases. The committee pointed out that many of them died and even retired and left their jobs but their salaries continued to be transferred. Both accounts number 7900101703 and 7900101603 of a local bank in Kumar Wahra, branch owned by Rafique and Yousaf.
Both account holders have no association with KMC but they have authorised to operate accounts transactions by fake NOC issued by KMC. Investigating team found that the involvement of department officers behind the scam including , ex director education north Karachi, Abdul Khaliq, assistant director education North Karachi, Mushtaq Ahmed, Pay sheet clerk Faisal Sarfaraz, accounts assistant Zafar Ahmed, Pay Sheet Clerk Harron Rashid, account assistant Shakir Hyder, ex DDO finance education Raziur Rehman, account assistant Muhammad Hussain, Assistant director Education Korangi, Sohail Ahmed and pay sheet clerk Waseem Zafar.
