The district administration stressed a need for concerted efforts on a war footing to eradicate polio virus.

Addressing the participants of a launching ceremony of three-day polio vaccination drive, District Coordination Officer Dr Irshad Ahmad said that in a World Health Organisation report, Pakistan was among one of the top countries with high number of polio cases in the world in the last several years.

Earlier, briefing the DCO, EDO (Health) Dr Munir Ahmad disclosed that a total of 228,235 children below the age of five years would be vaccinated during the three day drive. He added that 413 teams had been formed for administering polio drops to the children while a central control room had also been established to monitor performance of the teams.

He said that the polio teams would go door to door to vaccinate the children.
