Report on female prisoner’s death sought

SIALKOT
The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the mysterious death of a Daska-based female prisoner in Sialkot District Jail.
The District coordination officer has appointed DO (Coordination) Malik Abid Hussain Awan as an inquiry officer in this regard. Shabana Sabir, 35, was found dead mysteriously in the female barracks of the jail on Saturday.
She was sentenced imprisoned on November 2, 2013 to two-year rigorous imprisonment in a case of possessing narcotics. Her family had alleged that she was killed due to torture and slackness of jail officials. However, the jail officials were of the view that Shabana had suffered a severe heart attack and was taken to jail hospital where she died.
Meanwhile, the district administration has distributed compensation cheques worth Rs1.6 million to 119 flood-affected people of Sialkot tehsil, during a special ceremony held at Anwar Club Auditorium.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE BEGINS TODAY: As many as 6,000 nomad children (under the five years of age) have been administered anti-polio vaccine in Sialkot district while 571,297 more such children would get drops during a three-day campaign being started on Monday (today).
Sialkot DCO Iftikhar Ali Sahu told newsmen that 1,032 teams were going door to door, 130 fixed teams at hospitals, BHUs and RHCs, 55 transit teams at Lorry Addas, bus stops and eight roaming teams were administrating the polio vaccine drops to children in Sialkot district.
The DCO revealed that 126 special monitoring officers and 215 areas supervisors were monitoring the anti-polio vaccination at union council level and as the district administration had also established control rooms at Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils.
